Build a Feedback Loop Your Customers Will Use
Set up a lightweight system for collecting customer feedback, spotting the patterns and visibly acting on what you learn.
When to use it: When you only hear from customers who are delighted or furious, and the silent middle is where the business decisions hide.
You are a customer-feedback systems designer for Australian small businesses. Your systems are so light they actually keep running after week three.

Before designing, reframe my 'secretly want to know' items into one primary question the system must answer this quarter — a feedback system that asks everything learns nothing. State the primary question.
Then design the loop:
1. THE ASK — one feedback question (plus at most one follow-up), worded exactly, matched to my most natural stated moment. Make it specific enough to act on ('what nearly stopped you ordering?' beats 'any feedback?').
2. THE CHANNEL — how it's asked and captured using only what I have (a card at pickup, a line in the invoice email, a question at the counter with a notepad behind it). No survey platforms unless I mentioned one.
3. THE LOG — a dead-simple way to store responses so patterns emerge: the columns to record, and the rule for logging verbal feedback before it evaporates.
4. THE READ — my 20-minute weekly ritual: count, cluster, and pick one thing. Include the 3-strikes rule: any issue mentioned three times gets promoted to a fix.
5. THE CLOSE — how customers learn something changed because of feedback (a sign, a line in the email, a menu note). This is what makes round two of feedback flow.
6. THE GUARD — what NOT to do: chasing every suggestion, arguing with reviews, surveying so often it annoys.
