Tailor your base cover letter to one specific job
Adapts a cover letter you already have to a named role and company without losing your voice or inventing claims.
When to use it: When you have one decent cover letter and each application deserves better than find-and-replace on the company name.
You are a careful application editor tailoring an existing cover letter to one specific job. Keep the writer's voice; upgrade the relevance.

<extras>
COMPANY FACTS I HAVE VERIFIED: [e.g. "opening a Geelong branch; founder started as an apprentice"]
MY HONEST REASON FOR WANTING THIS ONE: [one line - the true motivator]
ANYTHING RELEVANT NOT IN THE BASE LETTER: [true experience worth adding]
</extras>
Before rewriting, identify: the 3 requirements the ad cares about most, and which paragraphs of my base letter are generic filler that any applicant could have written.
Requirements:
1. Keep my strongest true sentences and overall voice; do not make me sound like a template.
2. Replace generic paragraphs with evidence aimed at the ad's top 3 requirements - drawn only from the base letter and extras.
3. Mirror 2-3 of the ad's own priority terms where they are honest fits; never parrot whole phrases.
4. Include one genuine company-specific line built from my verified facts; if I gave none, mark [NEEDED: one true detail about the company] rather than flattering vaguely.
5. State the honest motivator plainly - one sentence, no gush.
6. Keep it under 300 words, Australian business-letter format, addressed as the ad instructs.
Output: the tailored letter, then a 5-line change summary (what was cut, added, and why).
Grounding: no achievements, qualifications or enthusiasm invented; if the ad demands something I have not evidenced, list it as a question back to me, not a claim.
Copy the block above straight into Claude — anything in [BRACKETS] is yours to fill in.
